I will be buying a new hard drive sometime soon to add to my computer. Its a 120 gb drive to add to the 40 gb drive that came with my comp. I needed to know is there an easy way to install this and will this drive be also in the C:\ path ?

The best way that i know of is to use "partion magic 8" This can change any drive letter for you without deleteing any thing. :) i tested this myself yesterday on my old harddrive.
Hope this helps m8.
If you need a copy its about 30 meg,pm me more.

And installing its a peice off ----, make sure u get the IDE cable the right way around, and u plug the power in, u be sorted. Make sure tho, when u put it in, that its either set to slave, or if you want thos to be master, set ur old one as slave with the pins on the back i got confused when doing mine why it would only boot with one and it was because they were both set to master....

You have to decide which HD will be the main one. Make that your master drive, and make the other drive the slave. Make sure you set the cluster size so that they are not to big, otherwise you will be wasting a lot of disk space. Set up your C: partition with at least 8 GIGS of space and then set up the partitions.
If it were mine I would copy everything from the 40 on over to the 120. Then do a format on the 40 with a /U switch.
This way if you ever get a bad virus or mechanical problem and you crash the whole drive, you won't lose 120 G's of info. It's just a much safer way to set it up.
What OS are you running? Is your disk an upgrade or a full version?

Make sure you turn off the built in firewall, and download and install Zone Alarm. Microsoft monitors everything that you do on your computer and it all gets sent to them, unless you do this ;)

well if youre using windows xp home then this is really easy. make sure your master hd is on the ide plug furthest from the plug thats into the motherboard (you should have 1 available ide plug between the two). this ide plug (one furthest away) is the master, and the one between that and the motherboard, is the slave. now plug in your new hd, have its jumper set to slave (usually tells you the jumper layout on the hd sticker, or in the manual... you can always look online, if worse comes to worse) then plug that in.
boot up, get into windows, go to... start menu > control panel > administrative tools > computer management > disk management. you should see your new hard drive in there. right click on the drive then hit "format". i believe NTFS is your only option, but if its not... make sure you pick it. because a 120gig hd is a PAIN in the --- when you have fat32 enabled... so use NTFS.
thats it, you should be good to go ;)
Planet ibf thats what people should do, format the hdd put the os on ther format it, and then if they get a virus just un format it and then use the virus free hdd

Yes, that's what I said above. That's what the /U switch is for ;)
(PS- it's IBX... not f) ;)
sorry bout that dude, i though you asked M3NF before in a post to change it to F because you mis-spelled your name in joining.. Well again sorry.
