Any of you who know me well, come on IRC with me lots, or talk to me at all, will know i still run a 56k and hate it!!!!
I have been tryin for about 6months to get my parents to buy me broadband, and today, finaly persuaded me mam to get me it! :D
So just imagine the scene, i was there, sitting next to her, she was on the fone to BT about to order this Boardband for me....i was chuffed to bits and about as high as a kite....but not for long!!!!!
BT then did their checks on my area to see if we are cabled up......and low and behold.....WE ARE NOT! AND acording to Bt, there is no plans to upgade this part of my little city from the next 6-12months!! so that was me about as ------ off it gets, they told us we had to be in a 5.5km radius of a exchange which aparntly we are not.
After thinking about it for a bit, i think i made it worse for me self, My school has the same BB as i was gonna be getting, and i live only about 500meters away from my school, which means we must only be a couple 100 meters outside the radius we need to be in, so that was the icing on the cake and im 110% ------ off now!!!!!!! after 6months of trying, then to get it thrown back in my face because of where we live.....well done BT, good on ya!!!!!

it sucks don't it.
i have waited for so long to get it too. Not in your area. Then i see an offer on Freeserve for free connection and modem and such..
so i go to check and yay it is now in my area.
However...
if you have a credit card for the payments you can have it free, if you dont tough ----. It will cost you £49.99
grrrr

Ive been caled many things, never quality! cheers! :D
Yeah, i even looked around a bit, after we rang BT, i looked on freeserve and NTL as well, as i know a few peeps around here have that, and all of them need a BT connection which i cant get. If anyone knows any good BB peeps that dont need a BT phoneline that i can try, i would really like to hear them!
Cheers

This is where it all falls to pieces n BT have the monopoly on the lines again, they say that the UK are way behind in the internet stakes n when you hear things like this n see it going on there is no wonder we lag behind the rest fo the world in the internet connections.
I will make a few inquiries to see what else is available m8.

i know what your going through, infact it's even worse for me, cos when i lived in Nottingham i was on NTL broardband, then i moved to a village in Northamptonshire and there's no B/B here, i checked BT's site and you need 255 peaple to sign up before they'll upgrade your exchange, i checked to see how many have done so in my area and including me there is a total of 5...........so from 56k to broadband and back to 56k.....what a killer, still there's allways the ISDN option 2X64k = 128k or 1X64k and a free phone line, cost, £27 amonth, same as broadband, what a rip off.............mind you i should have known i wasn't gona get broadband around here, when i saw the lamp lighter walking around in the evening, lmao

I know what you mean. I live in the US, so granted it is a bit different, but my cable company refused to update my STREET up until about 18 months ago. My street is really secluded, there's water (a bay, a lake, and a stream) on 3 sides of it, so they said it was pointless to upgrade my street because it didn't lead to anywhere else.
Finally, when the company made the decision to offer digital cable with on-demand shows and movies, they finally updated my street to fiber optic lines instead of the old copper ones because it wouldn't work on the old ones. It took them around 3 years from when I first requested it until they actually installed it. I couldn't get dsl either because I was too far from the exchange as you wrote. The phone company had no plans to update my street either, and still haven't. We don't have ISDN at all around here, the speed difference between that and dial-up isn't that signifigant and it costs alot in comparison.
But now I have my nice cable modem :) I get speeds of 600kb/s to 1mb/s. I love it. And those speeds are after my router splits it with the other three computers in my house! :o

:( Don't even think of getting broadband with ** as their so called broadband is crap... if you want a cracking broadband deal then have a ganda at this company whom I recon by next year will be the top ISP in Europe and the UK as they are offering proper broadband connection at a price you can afford...
have a look at the link you will not be disappointed...
put your postcode in here and do a search to see if your exchange is available
