ok...IPS is really bs'ing us now.... First they take away our support. Now they become more strict. I just got thrown into mod queue because Maddoktor2 said that too many ppl were complaining about my posts and saying they were rude and pointless! I dont believe that because he can come up with any proof. And whats wrong with trying to get the community up and running?
I might leave IPB for OpenBB if this gets any worse. If they ban me, im out of the game 100% and into the OpenBB game.
Anyone else agree?

do you have a licence for ipb? cause you do get support with that. how can you expect a company like ips to offer free tech support to ANYONE that wants it? its an unrealistic request simply because of the amount of ------- idiots out there who cant figure their head from their ---. ive gotten lots of help in their forums from folks that just hang out there.

I sent a PM to Matt
Matt, please take some time to read this - dont ignore it.
Whats happening with IPS? First you take away the free staff support and now you guys are getting more strict! Ive just gotten thrown into mod queue (by Dok) for saying i was being too rude and my posts were getting pointless. I dont think there is any evidence that my posts get so rude that ppl start to complain. Why are you guys slouching down to such a low level? Even phpBB has better community and support forums than you!
Could you please try to rethink some of your actions and if you think right you might get some ppl back (like Apple who converted to OpenBB cuz of the support issue).
Here's an idea:
Have a category for support how you used to have and make one part for Registered Members to post in and one part for unregistered members to post in but the Registered members would have more priortey(sp?).
Lets try to get the old IPS back!
On behalf of most unregistered members,
Matt Joe English
PS. How was the meeting?
that might do the trick ;)

Sorry fretster, posts like that on here are not called for. IPB can offer free support because its there board, you buy something, what do you get with it? Instructions! A Help line to call if you get stuck. You get someone who doesnt have the hundreds of dollars IPB expect you to have to be able to register their board, they get stuck and your fukked. Where do you go? Luckly you can go here and we will do our best to help you, but what if we werent hear, what about the people who get stuck then? Matt, Charles and Rikki and the rest of the staff then start to get PMs asking for help, which they are allways unhappy with. They are diging a whole for themselves.
@ Mattt, he will not reply, he might not even read it, trust me! ;)

marbleshark - either lowercase m or Matt ;)
If Matt doesnt reply i dont really mind...if he doesnt make any improvements within a month or 2 i will mind.
I agree with you 1000% marbleshark. When you buy a product you expect to get ez instructions and free support. IPS is bending that.
It's either IPB or OpenBB for me!

well, if you buy the board i can understanding expecting support, and its stated that you do. if you bothered to read my previous post you would have noticed that i said... "do you have a licence for ipb? cause you do get support with that. how can you expect a company like ips to offer free tech support to ANYONE that wants it?" and that is the truth! if you dont bother to pay for a program, or board, or whatever and you expect to get free tech support out of it, youre stupid!
my basis of that post was under the assumption that mattt does not have a licence for ipb. however, since it appears that he does have a licence, then i can understand his complaint about it, and support what he's saying. so please take the time to read posts before saying that posts "are not called for".
now, that post (prior one in this thread) isnt directed at mattt, or anyone here. its talking about people expecting something for nothing, and that is a bass ackwards assumption to make.
example.
didnt buy windows xp. do i complain about tech support?
no
bought an xbox. do i complain about tech support?
yes
bought cable modem service. do i complain about tech support?
yes

then why do you expect them to give you free tech support? also, in their tech support areas, it says that the occasional IPS staff member may assist you, but for the most part it is other experienced users that offer their assistance. you've seen the forums just as i have, that place is a mad house. how do you expect a company as small as IPS to cater to the needs of a number as large as the userbase for IPB? its an unrealistic expectation.
if you want priority tech support, as well as some other goodies... buy a licence, its that easy. they've already given you a kick --- board to use for free.

Ill say posts are not called for, if i believe they are not called for thank you.
Why shouldnt he expect free tech support, Goto OpenBB, its free, so u get support, goto Ikon, its free, do you get support? yes! Goto PHPBB, its free, do you get support? yes! They are all "kik ---" boards, you dont have to pay for them, you should you have to pay for their support, so why should Invison runners have to, just because its a more popular board, mebbe not a BETTER board?!? Its not excatly cheap either!!
Moved into Rants section, as its gettin that way! ;)

but they're different companies, you cant hold what one company does against the policy of another.

Invision is losing members to other software because of this support issue. They lost staff aswell!
I hope Matt does something about this...future of IPS lies in his hands *sigh*
omg. they locked that topic. In the forum description it says they dont mod that forum. They lock every on of Jackal05's topics in there.

Ah, well i think they would do better to still offer a small amount of support. Users who are trying it out before they buy it will be more interested if they have a problem solved rather than attitude stuck in their face. I do see alot of people now being turned off by the way they go about it all. I'm not saying they need to bend over backwards like we do, but some moderate amount of help would be an advantage!
Or atleast they can lower their prices. They have a one off fee, perhaps a yearly fee at a lower rate would work well. But their popularity has indeed gone to their head and are losing sight of how to keep their consumers.
Having said that, it seems they are now aiming at businesses instead of your average user. Hence the price, it sounds like a more proffessional board and service if the price is higher.
Well, it would sure help if they thought more in this aspect.

Pay you say? This will get you support you say?
NOPE!
In case you were wondering, they do not even assist if your offer is not high enough!
I sent this to their "pay for mods request line":
Hello,
I come from a YaBB background.
I am glad to have moved on to Invision as it has much more functionality than YaBB did when I "upgraded".
I know this is a portal option board however, I was wondering if anyone has the ability to implement something like this.
I really miss one of THE most used features of the site.
In the Admin area, we had what was known as the Error Log.
This when click on, reflected ALL errors a user would get.
Now, you ask, why is this a good thing?
1. If the user received a "Not Authorized" error when attempting to sign in as an admin to a restricted area, it would reflect the error, the date of the error, the link attempted, the IP of the user and if a member the username!
2. If there was a error with the forum somewhere it would reflect the error, the link when getting the error, the IP of the user, etc. This was great for trouble shooting problems.
3. If a user(admin) from another board attempted to find a YaBB weakness in your board too, this would be reflected when they go the error as well as IP, etc.
So, you see, this my friends is a VERY helpful way of monitoring security concerns for your Invision Site!
Now, to clean this out, you could select individual error entries and delete or "Toggle All" to remove all.
So, PLEEEESE? This is a great feature to add if someone can do it!
Happy Holidays!
And offered to pay up to $20 for it as IBPlanet suggested $20 was MORE than reasonable. I would post that too but no need .
Here is there expert, money grubbin' response:

Hmm, should I be happy it did not cost me to send the request? Of coarse I did not email this in a stamped self addressed email to cover their reply costs either.....
Oh yeah, they have some happy users!
I did reply thanking them for taking several seconds to consider my request and offering alternatives........
I also told them I would share their reply with as many as I could about their "great" support.
Love the board but they need some people skills.
