Logon Tutorial for Windows XP
First, I'd like to state that I nor NbsDesignz is responsible for what you do
with the information provided. For Instance, if you f**k up your computer, Its not our fault.
Now, on to the tutorial. Windows XP Uses an app called Logonui.exe to run the logon screen when you boot up XP. (If you dont see one, your probubly the only one w/ an account on your computer and dont have a password added). This program has all the gui and coding for the logon screen but today, we're going to modify some text.
Your going to want to download a program called resource Hacker. This program will open any exe (well, almost any) and show you all of the graphics enclosed in it and dialogs and strings and what not. Click here (http://www.users.on.net/johnson/resourcehacker/) to download it.
Ok, we got our resource Hacker. Now what... well your going to want to go to the folder C:\WINDOWS\System32 and search for a file titled logonui. You can keep pressing L until its higlited :). Now, copy the folder and paste it to your desktop in a subdirectory in which we will be working. Title the directory somthing like, NewLogon or somthing... Now, open up the wonderful resource Hacker and go to File > Open and select the logonui.exe file in the
directory that we created earlier.
Now, we have resource hacker opened up and we want to edit the part where it says Currently Logged On. Look on the left and click on the + next to the word String Table. Go down to the part where it says 2 then click on the plus, then click on 1033. Look for the part where it says Currently Logged on and replace it with, say NbsDesignz. Now, click Compile Script. Go to File > Save.
Now your going to exit resource hacker and install a program called Logon Loader. You can click here (http://software.deviantart.com/details/240/) to download it. Ok, got it installed, now run it and go to Select Logon. Go to where your logonui.exe file is on your desktop in the directory we created and select it. Close logon loader after you selected the file and go to Start > Switch Users or push the windows key + l to switch users.
Keep experimenting with graphic replacing and string editing and you'll end up witha pretty nice looking logon. I hope this tutorial helped.
