Hey members. Before I start this post I would like to applaud the people
who have used our skins without altering the copyright. You have done the
right thing and are to be praised. Not even a week into our existance we
have discovered a board that has already altered our copyright. As we are
unable to punish these people by law we have decided to trial a system
which will hopefully act as a deterant. Basically we contact the culprit
and give them 24 hours to remove our images or the skin. If in 24 hours
our Spam Team will be contacted to politely spam their message board into
submission. No swearing or rude comments. Examples could be:
"Ripping
off www.IBFksinned.tk is really out of order"
"Copyright is a small
price to pay for the fabulouse skin"
"My board (http://URL.HERE) has
copyright. What makes yours special?"
A board is unusable in a state
of total spam so even if they refuse to give back the skin or show our
copyright we will be stopping them using it. This may sound terribly
horrid but it is all we can do. Skin artists put multiple hours into those
skins. They make them with the knowledge that people will enjoy them and
give them the credit they deserver. We cannot stop you removing it but
that does not mean it is okay. If you are interested in 'politely'
spamming perpetrators boards please PM me privatley or post below.
We
will soon have an area to report these people so please write down sites
you see. Do not take it upon yourself to spam sites. Only spam under our
name if we have posted a statement that says we have given them 24 hours
and they have no complied. We do not want to effect people who did it by
accident.

I realy like that idea, I can't wait until someone takes the copyright
off my skin. :)
Hehe!.gif'> I really
don't want someone to take off my copyright, but if they do, then they
shall suffer! :)

Encouraging spam? Uhhhhhh ok. Not a good idea.

Well, if you're as small a site as this one, you really can't take
legal action because someone took the copyright off a skin. If you
actually thought, you might actually think of a different way of doing
this. Care to help, Rikki? :angry1: I
suggest that even though you are older than me, that you watch it.

:) (Happy
that didn't bother erasing the copyright.)

hehe. well i suppose we are supposed to just sit back and allow people to
rip us off?
If you have a better idea please share, don't just
critisise us without putting some HELPFUL critisism.
And If you
have read properly, It says that it will be polite. nothing rude and no
bad language. Merely a protest.
Which is what people do when they
have no other choice.

That sound good and fair to me also... If there are ppl out there that

I can't say enough how
totally lame that is. If you do not have legal copyright and can not
sue.. then forget it and write it off. By spamming their message board
you are stooping below the level of the user that removed the copyright.
You only make yourself look very unprofessional Plus.. you could
possibly get into alot of trouble for initiating a DoS. Have your ISP cut
off your service or even worst a law suite.. and you have no defense what
so ever. I would suggest you obtain a legal copyright and then enforce
this by law instead of resorting to such childish (i hesitate to say so
but it is) tactics.
I know artists spend lots of time creating a
skin, but if they do not obtain a legal copyright and the skins is
"ripped off" then it is part of sharing on the internet. Live with it.

No i disagree, no one should live with it, i guess that you do not skin
yourself, if so them i believe that you would have posted more of a
helping post and not just a childish remark to our comments.
I still
personal see no harm, and making a stand for what you believe in is not
wrong, when you have litttle ways of stopping ppl you do what you can, its
not a case of we hassle ppl until they put there skin copyright back, it
is a post on full view of the member to show that this skin is either
stolen or riped and that the owner has little respect for the artist, i
mean if i new that i worked for or went to work for someone that would
steal my work, i would leave there, so whats wrong with being honest with
a post.
Yes i agree if you post spam and plaster the board then
that is so totally wrong, but a post to inform then well that just normal,
everyone has a right to freedom of speech. and that is what we
ask.
Look at it how you want, there is no lowering ourself, we
mearly saying to ppl they stolen our work, and to say that is wrong?????
well nope i think not.
Aristia

I see where you are coming from, and think perhaps you do not understand
what we mean by spamming.
The idea is, we find a person claiming
they made a skin (which is by us or another member of our board) and make
it plainly obvious it was not by them.
U are saying a person puts
alot of effort to give the community some FREE work, but they must go
further and actually pay out for a copyright! just for a
skin?
Yes its a mean to an end, but for the amount of skins we
make, to have a copyright on each would cost us alot. so its all give on
our part.
There is no intention to flood a site. Just to make it
obvious to all that it is a rip.
I hardly think there could be any law
suit about us making a post lol.
You have 2 posts! did you just
come here to insult us or what?
C'mon we do nothing but good
for others here! providing free skins, and free custom skins. So it is
not very nice for you to come here putting us down.

This is what was not
originally posted.
I have nothing wrong with making a post about
the skin being ripped off.. but the board admin has a right to delete the
post and ban you if he likes. This what was originally
posted.
A board is unusable in a state of total
spam so even if they refuse to give back the skin or show our copyright we
will be stopping them using it.
As far as free speech.. you
have a right on public grounds. Private servers and websites can
reject and accept who ever they want. You do not have freedom of speech
in a private institution(if you dont like it go
elsewhere)

I came here looking at skins
and found a topic that i completely disagreed with. I am by no means
trying to cause trouble. I appreciate the fact that you release skins to
the public for free and if i do use a skin i would gladly give a link
back. But if someone refused to acknowledged this you have no recourse,
but to e-mail or post telling them how upset you are and hope he/she will
comply.

I hope I'm not going to be accused of ripping the new "Hot Summer"
skin from here when people see the look of my board, "The Sunshine
Place". Because that certainly is not the case, I made my own skin,
before the Summer one was done for here. :)

lol no m8, no chance of that ... ever :) you made
yours hehe plus the one we made was only a copy of the board someone else
used on phpbb forum i think, so it was a identical copy so we dont own
the right either :) we
just have right to let it for public d/l

from mine. I also put you in my affiliates list hope you don't mind.

Thanks for clearing that up M3NF. It's just slightly worrying when
you're such a little site, and you see a skin similar in look to what
yours is on a decent site like this, knowing that there are already
problems with people ripping. Just felt I had to say something.

no its ok. i am sorry you thought it could have been with you. We do like
to make sure first that we are 100% correct before we blame ppl, as in our
skins we have some hidden text that when viewed the source of the page we
can search for that, and no its not a word anyone would think of, as that
be silly, but needless to says it not ment to be there :) so
there i am giving away of little secrets again :) still
they got to find what it is yet

Encouraging spam ? This is not a very "positive" look for ibfskinned. I don't care what type of spam it is, if it be 1 word posts or 50 word posts. It should be up to the author of the skin to decide if they want action taken or not. And how long is your spam spree going to last ? Your IP is logged and then u are banned... waiola... the admin clears up the board and continues... what we really need is a way to make the copyright harder to remove, so it is embedded such as the Invision Board copyright is... then it would make it harder for it to be removed.

Which is exactly what was meant by this.
And yes, krip, the authors get informed and it is up to them what happens.
I'm getting fed up of all this negative feedback. all we want is to protect our own work. And people who steal our work, do deserve a protest.
Or would you sit back while someone robbed your home?
Anyway. I think this topic is about done now.
