Alrighty I was looking around and stumbled upon this post about different XBOX DVD drives. Here's is a rating from best(1) to worst(3)
1. Samsung
2. Phillips
3. Thomson
To see which one you have view this (http://www.home.no/emus/tutorial/philips_thomson_samsung.jpg) image. If you are experiencing major glitches, freezing, or just unplayable games then you probably have the cheap Thomson drive :)
