You can get a side bar like the one on longhorn at http://www.smartbarxp.com

Yer, i have it, its pretty damn good as well!

IdCaabma

Well they work and I would have to say that those screen shots do not say it is the orthentic LH. You can get themes and an EXE (MDK5) which make that exact look and like ash said the sidebar can be sourced from many places now. Besides that sidebar does not look anything like the LH one as theirs has MUCH more on it and I can only see a clock (which is in the wrong place for the real LH bar).
I would say that is not a true LH but a mock one.

i'll bet u 5 million dollars its a LH

IdCaabma

Not going to get into a debate about it. But I will say that I can make my XP look EXACTLY the same as that, but with a more othentic sidebar.

Why? I am a win32 nut and a MS active member and this interests me big time as I thought it was not due for release untill 2007

Ed

No don't go like that.
The reason I said it was a souped up version of XP is because I have had many people taking the micky out of me because I am an active member of MS and get many of their beta releases from MS NZ in the mail and as yet I have only ever recieved Beta3 of LH. They scoff saying they have LH and I find out that it is only a souped up version of XP. I know what will be in the final version as I have all the write ups about it and all the results from the beta testing and as yet as far as I know there is no public release of LH.
That is why I am interested in seeing the drives list as there is something in there that cannot be faked in a souped up version of XP.

It is not a good idea to close a topic before it is finnished with.

IdCaabma
02-Jan-2004, 09:49 PM
That 2004-2005 release is only the first public release, but from what I have recieved from MS the final release is not due untill June 2007.

Sprocket
02-Jan-2004, 09:51 PM
CI is correct, there is NO final release out yet only betas and mock ups to look like it,

Ed
02-Jan-2004, 09:52 PM
Oh, but wont they make alot of changes to the scripting between now and 2007?

IdCaabma
02-Jan-2004, 09:53 PM
Yeah if MS keep up to their usual practises they will make many changes before they call it final. I guess that is why such a long forecast for final release.

what about the thing in asia
i saw it on tech live i think.
Thay said something happened and pirated versions got out but the people couldnt run it

even if it is LH i dont think it could be running IE in this point of its dev phase..

Then again they are prolly farther in the dev than we think.

Ed
02-Jan-2004, 10:18 PM
Well, the only reason they cant run it, it because the people who pirate software (OS'S) Cannot get all the system files, because there all hidden.

IdCaabma
02-Jan-2004, 10:22 PM
Pirated software is what makes us legal folks pay more for it.
It is swings and round abouts as the people who are silly enough to use prirated software say they do becuase it is too expensive, but then if they stop pirating it then maybe the prices would go down.
Food for thought.

from what ive seen there are many mock up versions of longhorn out there as they have been passed out to some beta testers for checks and has now become widely available on the internet for people to download and use.

Either that or there has been a patch come out which you can put over your xp to give it the themed look of longhorn as it now stands.

Not looking for a debate here either, but yes it "looks" like LH, however even a beta version will have flaws and not the real thing.

So in closing I could say I can make my XP look just like a Mac OS X will all bells and whistles too. The point I believe he was trying to make was that the OS's GUI interface is going to be quitely different than from what we know it to be.

Nuff said
