I have these annoying pop ups all the time, and its not from the sites I'm visiting/

it might be a virus or spyware.

If it's messenger spam you can find how turn that off here: http://www.itc.virginia.edu/desktop/docs/messagepopup/

If not, run the software which CI gave a link to. And get Ad-Aware from http://www.lavasoft.nu as well

Ad-Aware is not too nice now Ash. I use to use that also. But I gave it a test and after runing ad-aware I ran spybot and that found a lot more that aa missed.

Windows Messenger is not an instant messaging service, it's a local daemon...I don't know much about it, other than the fact that it is an effective means by which to spam b0x3n to deth.

Doesn't matter. If you downloaded spyware, which is highly likely, it's already past your firewall. ;)

Like Erick said.. doesn't matter as spyware is what is built into many freeware and shareware programs and if you download and install the program then the spyware is on your system doing it's job.

Don't know if there are any available to deal with spyware, but it's always best to look for an open-source application to do the job, before looking for freeware.

http://www.sourceforge.net

For instance: Don't want to install Word on your b0x, or can't afford it? AbiWord is just as powerful, more efficient, and completely open source.

In general, it's safe to assume there's a catch when a) the product is free, and b) it's not open source. ;)

I created a list of Spyware Removers: Here (http://www.spammers-paradise.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=6148).

Adaware and Spybot are my personal favorites.

SpywareBlaster is a great program to keep spyware from even being installed.
