Me and my dad were building a computer the other day (accually i was but he was just giving me the parts) and i asked him how much memory he's gonna buy me and he say only 512mb because thats the maximum XP supports.

Is that true? or can it support more (like 1gig)?

Thanks.

Well I have 1g of ram and I know a mate that has 4g.
There is no limit that I know of. As much as your MB can hold.

Here's What You Need to Use Windows XP Professional
PC with 300 megahertz or higher processor clock speed recommended; 233 MHz minimum required (single or dual processor system);* Intel Pentium/Celeron family, or AMD K6/Athlon/Duron family, or compatible processor recommended
128 megabytes (MB) of RAM or higher recommended (64 MB minimum supported; may limit performance and some features)
1.5 gigabytes (GB) of available hard disk space*
Super VGA (800 ? 600) or higher-resolution video adapter and monitor
CD-ROM or DVD drive
Keyboard and Microsoft Mouse or compatible pointing device
Additional Items or Services Required to Use Certain Windows XP Features.

What your father may have been referring to was your motherboard's memory slot availablity.
The OS wants MEM!
Your MOB may not beable to handle more mem.
I hope this cleared things up for ya.
