I am about to upgrade to Invision 1.1 (porbably in the next 4 hours)

I manage a site which offers very large files for free download. The committee who manage it have for ages been saying that they want to force people to log on using their forum logon in order to download files.

I have seen this done elsewhere (here for example), but can anyone point me in the direction?

Yeah, all it is, is hiding the forums which inclued the downloads to Guests, which mean you have to register to beable to view the forums with the download in!

Hope this is ok

A direct link to the post in question would have been a good idea mt2, otherwise it just looks like a cheap shot at getting people to your boards. I did have a look around, and it's a great board (hope that makes you realize i wasn't just being nasty with what I said), but couldn't find the topic in question. And I tried searching -- still couldn't get any results, and doubt I would have been able to view them anyway , not being a member.

This really isn't meant in a nasty way, but I do think if you're going to offer support on one board, then it should be proper support. A proper link to the post where the information is available would have been much better -- and still got people to look at your board, which I still say is an excellant looking forum, with lots of good tips, and help, offered.

Sorry if anyone thinks I've gone over the top on this, but some things just bug me a bit.

I have to say I found it straight away and it seemed to be exactly what I was looking for. Mind you, I posted the original thread, so I guess I would find it!

Thanks

I'm sorry but he asked the sma e question on my board. I replied in his topic. :P :P No, I'm not just posting MY board for the heck of it, it just seemed logical to keep the answer in one place. I have to honest, I am a hare offended by this, but I'll live.

For you: http://www.scriptinghelp.com/index.php?act...=ST&f=3&t=85&s= (http://www.scriptinghelp.com/index.php?act=ST&f=3&t=85&s=) :P

And what is the matter with ordering? It's serverside scripting so it would be in there :P

For newbies that would be hard to find

It did sound a bit like a bit of a way to get ppl to look at ur forums. It is alot better if you put the direct link, not only for this guy, but also for anyone else with the same question. If ppl click ur link and can't find what they need, it is less likely they'll come back to you anyway.

well done putting the link after thou :D hope u not take offence to my comment. I'm just being objective (unbiased)

I'm sorry you feel offended by my post, it really wasn't meant to do that. I was just trying to point out that a link to the actual post would have been of far more use to someone, myself included, who was interested in the answer you'd given.

And what is the matter with ordering? It's serverside scripting so it would be in there
I don't understand that statement. Are you saying that in some way the original question had something to do with ordering? If so, it's certainly not obvious to a complete novice like myself, so I wouldn't know to look in server side scripting. Come to that, I don't even know what you mean by ordering.

I'm trying very hard to learn something about the workings of Invision Board, and PHP in general. Maybe this isn't the forum for me to learn any of that, as there appears to be some expectation of knowledge already aquired. I may be older than the rest of you here, but I've only recently started to try and learn anything other than how to use programs like "Word". My age is probably against me in that process, because I won't pick things up as quickly as some of you younger people.

Again, my intentiom is not to cause offence of any sort to anyone with this post, but I'm guessing that mt2 just might be a hare offended by it

Well, that was my point. I said that a "n00b" wouldn't really know what to look for when following that link.

Yes i guess alot of ppl do forget that some of us have limited knowledge. I guess, they have to point out they are really clueless.

But then again, if they don't get the answer they need, they can reply again and re-illiterate their prob.

It's all fun. and we're all on a learning curve. So that in mind i guess understanding a person's frustration when they can't do what they are trying to do is a good thing :)

I'm sure we'll all get there in the end.

Thx again mt2 for adding the direct link :) good job for the quick reply! As ppl hate waiting. And that is one of the things that makes us great. as most of the other places take forever to give support.
