I
downloaded "Mid-Night Metal" and below are the instructions that came
with it.
"To install a skin on your Invisionboard, follow these
steps:
1) Extract the zip file you downloaded from IBFskinned onto
your hard disk. You will see a number of files, including this
readme.
2) Via FTP, upload the tar file that was in the zip file,
into the "archive_in" folder. This will be in the folder that your
Invisionboard is installed to. For example:
http://www.domain.com/forums/archive_in/ ('http://www.domain.com/forums/archive_in/')
3)
In your Invisionboard AdminCP, select Skins & Languages -> Import Skin
Files. If you have uploaded properly, you will see a list of files that
are in the "archive_in" folder. Find the one you uploaded, and select
"Import".
4) If everything went OK, you will now be able to
select the installed skin via your user control panel. If you got an
error, go back and check everything is uploaded and CHMODed
properly.
5) Also included with the .zip is a folder for emoticons,
just replace these into your /root/html/emoticons
this will stop the
white from the standard emoticons showing up on the dark
background."
OK.
Well I did all as instructed and the miserable
thing doesn't work. I have been awake till 4.00am in the morning and I
am not amused messing with instructions that don't work. I even
followed the isntructions word for word in the tutorial in
"http://IBFskinned.tk-installing blue gel."
Now what is the
problem. I can see that the skin is on the server through the your
Invisionboard AdminCP, select Skins & -> Import Skin Files.
Also
what does "Portal" mean as is so casually mentioned in this support
forum?
Look at this statement-
"Are you using the portal? if
so, don't forget to add the skin_site to the relevant folder for that
skin"
What does it mean. First of I can not find skin_site
anywhere on the server and trust me I searched and searched, then searched
and searched. Do you want to hear it again, I guess not! That how
frustrating it is.
1 Is my problem because there is an error in
the instructions that came with "Mid-Night Metal?"
2 Is it
because I am using Invisionboard v1.1 BETA hosted on Invisionboard servers
as a paid customer and its not allowed to do this. If so does it mean
technical support can change the skin?
3 why can't I replace
the default skin because when I try to I get an error message.
4 Does
the tutorial in "http://IBFskinned.tk-installing blue gel." work with
Invisionboard v1.1 BETA?
Somebody help please cos the tutorial in
"http://IBFskinned.tk-installing blue gel." is not working for me
<_<

Hmmmm. Well
firstly may i say, your comments were not so polite. We are willing to
help and feel that is a little unjustified. May i also point out that we
do this free and for the benefit of all.
A "portal" is that bit
you see on the first page you come to of our site. It doesn't sound to
me like you have got one.
So, you clicked the import skins link and
were then presented with the import page. Did you press the import link
pertaining to that midnight skin? (sorry if silly question, but u'd be
surprised the silly mistakes some ppl make)
Just how far did you
uncompress the file? you need only uncompress that first file as the one
contained within must go into "archive_in" as the compressed .tar
itself.
I am not sure what things they do on their hosted boards,
we are not part of their company. We are a skinning site that makes the
skins to go with it.
I know some servers use safe mode, so that
causes problems with users wishing to skin their boards. There is an
option to use safe mode skins. In AdminCP, choose board settings -> Basic
config, at the bottom there is an option there.
There are various
team members on our board, who are all over the world. if you have
problems again, you will be able to send a pm, or email to any of the team
and should most likely get a reply back fairly soon from atleast one of
them (if not some have given their chat program details so they can be
contacted that way aswell.
Please let us know if that doesn't
work. And we'll see what else can be done. There doesn't seem to
be an error with the instructions as others are using them just fine. This
may be a problem which is just limited to your board but we'll
endeavor to help as best we can :)

i ask for you to reframe from using language on your
posts
Mid-Night Metal-skin, It
doesn't work-Very very ------
off
We spend alot of our time
help as many people as we can, but just as you do pay for support with
Invision i afraid that we do not get paid for our work. We do this for our
pleaseure. So i would ask you to be a little more greatful from all the
members that spend there time here, that do not get anything from
this.
i shall edit that now from the topic name.
Thnank you
for your help in this matter.

I
apologise for my tone of voice. I am new and I assumed you are part of the
Invision board. I have to admit I am very frustrated cos if I go to
technical support they take between two to three days to answer your query
even though you paid for this support. So please accept my apology as I
assumed you are all of the same team. As I write this I am having a bad
migraine cos of lack of sleep. Please appreciate the fact that I am
suffering.
I am intrigued. It looks like I don't have a portal.
No wonder it was frustrating cos I did not know what you were talking
about. Now why is this cos I did not personally install invision
board.
As to the question, "Just how far did you uncompress the
file? you need only uncompress that first file as the one contained within
must go into "archive_in" as the compressed .tar itself." The answer is
I upload the tar file that was in the zip file, into the "archive_in"
folder.
Again please accept my apology and thank you very much for
all your support.

I really
like your skin as its the most beautiful I have seen anywhere. That the
more reason I have spent nealy 30 hours with only two hours sleep trying
to install it. I am willing to pay someone to install it. If so let me
know and I will forward the necessary passwords to access my control panel
and server.

I am
going to do a manual install now but I wonder if it would work because
one, I don't have a portal and two, I can't see a skin_site file
on the server as instructed in the tutorial, but I will try anyway. I have
spent too much time to give up now. Wish me luck.

I have
just done a manual install. I am sorry to say it did not work. I still
have the same old blue Invision board skin. I am looking at the
Invisionboard AdminCP and notice that the Invision board skin has a red
cross next to it and when I try to remove it an error comes up saying it
is the default skin. Does any one know how to move it and set something
else as the default?

Henry do
me a favor and go here and follow the instructions there to find out for
sure about safemode on your server.
Safemode info ('http://80.7.106.9/IBF/index.php?act=ST&f=4&t=159')
and on your question about the
portal, I did not mean to confuse anyone by referring to the portal, as
those that Have the portal from ibfxtreme know they have it. For those
running the portal with invision board forums have to take a few extra
steps so the main page of there site matches the skin on the forums. If
your interested in using the portal you can go here.ibfxtreme portal ('http://ibfxtreme.sourceforge.net/forums/index.php?act=site')
if yea need anything else
yea can send me a pm or message thru msn

Thanks
for all your help. As you can see I have done everything. First Via FTP,
upload the tar file that was in the zip file, into the "archive_in"
folder. Because this didn't work. I have since then done a manual
upload using the AminCP on my board. This is the message I got when I
tried to access the board, "Fatal error: Call to undefined function:
pagetop() in /home/theguide/public_html/sources/Boards.php on line
58"
Luckily I have retieved the board as I had another window open
from which the AdminCP was still running. So it was a question of
retracing my steps and putting everything back.
This step I took
has given me an idea. I have gone back and deleted everything both on the
server and in the settings on the AdminCp. Now I am going to start afresh
albeit very slowly. Keep your fingers crossed. Thsi has beeen a marathon
on MidNightMetal proportions. Hope to report back with some good news.

HAHAHAHAhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah :woot:
 :D :P I HAVE DONE
IT!!!!! I HAVE THE BEST
LOOKING BOARD in the whole of England.
We are all celebrating here. I
have never skinned before but in the end it was three to four clicks and I
have it.. I used Via FTP, upload the tar file that was in the zip file,
into the "archive_in" folder. What had happened was because of various
trial and error, I have uploaded so many tar filies on the server. Because
they were duplicates or maybe I had clicked on them, the .tar had changed
to .tar.bin. Anyway I systematically deleted all of it and uploaded the
.tar again. Then through my AdminCP, I imported it and set it as the
deault skin. Presto!!! IIT
WORKED!! Thank you, ThANK YOU
all of you. I feel very emotional about how patient, helpful and kind you
have all been. I started around 6.pm on Fiday evening now its 7.40pm
Sunday evening. I have spent two days in front of my computer and am
hurting all over. Looking at the new skin, trust me, its worth evert penny
of the time spent. Thanks all of you. God Bless you all.
