to 777. Any other ideas?

I know
exactly what this is caused by :D
The server you
are installing on is in safe mode which means you can't upload skins
 If you have a bit of
spare cash consider hosting with a 10 MB account with Octane Design (My
Company). You can install skins and run board fine. It is charged in
Australian dollars. Basically it would cost:
$10 AUD Hosting
Set-up
$10 AUD Invision Set-up (We cannot release passwords
etc.)
$24 AUD 10 MB of hosting space
This comes with FTP access
and support for all of Invision board. If you are interested you can
either PM me or email me:
lloyd@octane-design.biz
or my
company:
sales@octane-design.biz
This comes to a total of $44
AUD, 16 pounds or $25 USD. We prefer payment by PayPal but can sort
alternatives if this is not possible.
Awaiting your
reply,
LLOYD
IBF Team Leader & Octane Design
P.S. This is
standard hosting and open to anyone

thanks
for your reply altho I would have to disagree. Ive been running IBF for
months and have skinned the heck out of the older version. This is a
freash install with beta 1.1 and never had any trouble with it ever. Also
my webhost is one of the most cheapest and excellent host Ive ever had.
The amount and speed for the money is unbeatable but thanks for your
assitance...
Anyone else?

We have been
ask about safe mod installing, i believe we also has another post today
about it, it is hard when your server only runs in safe mode, you will
need to contact your host and menstion to them that you need to have the
safe mode switch off. Here is a link to the other post, i also replyed to
him with some other idea first, but to the worst of luck he also new that
he only had two choices, one change host, or two manual install the skin.
target='_blank'>Here the link (http://80.7.106.9/IBF/index.php?act=ST&f=4&t=127&)
Give that a try first to make
sure your chmod setting are correct. Please feel free to post again if no
luck with that option.

To
check to see if your server has safemode on, just unzip this file then
upload to your server: http://www.knights-of-avalon.com/downloads/phpinfo.zip ('http://www.knights-of-avalon.com/downloads/phpinfo.zip')
Then
in your browser goto: target='_blank'>http://www.yourdomain.com/phpinfo.php (http://www.yourdomain.com/phpinfo.php) and scroll
down the page till you see the list for Safemode.
will look like

mode, you guys were right. My apolgies. I talked with my provider and they
wont turn safe mode off. So it looks like the hard way of skinning.
I'll let you guys know how I do. Thanks again

I am in
the same boat as you, and my host hasn't responded to any email i
have sent on the issue.
And manually skinning v1.1 has yet to be
written up. No one I have talked to knows how to do it
manually.
The only way I see to do it with version 1.1 will take
the better part of the day copying code from the template.html file and
putting it into the individual template sections in your template manager.
That template.html file has 11,000 lines of code in it, so i just
stopped trying. :)

nope,
changing that setting in admincp still doesn't allow to import a skin
when the server has safemode on.
whether it is supposed to or not,
I do not know, but heard somewhere that it will work that way in a later
build, maybe beta 2, could only hope it is fixed in beta 2, would make
my life so much easier. :)

skinned my board last night in about 2 min...I found a lazy and shortcut
way.....I unzipped all the file, importted the templates/wrapper throught
the admin cp and then changed skins, uploaded all the graphics via ftp and
bam...works.see

go figure.

wonder
if we Xperties would post in more detail what he did to get a skin loaded
manually.

XPerties if you would be so kind as to post that it would be great
:)
This
gives me an idea. We could open a tutorial area where we could have step
by step instuctions for problems like this one. That would mean people who
have this problem in the future would be able to read the tutorial and fix
it themselves. Would anyone be interested in writing tutorials for
problems that come up in the Support area? I will need to check with the
rest of the team about this but it sounds like a good
idea.

Oh no.
I tried setting the default skin to the one I installed, and turned out I
couldn't get into the forum. Something with regards to a mod missing.
Did changing the skin delete away my mod??
But what's worse is when
I switched back to the original skin, I can't even access anything. I
get

Ok,
just realized another thing. I can't access my forum from the domain
itself (or whatever you call it) but if I go to index.php, I can still
access it.
M3NF
02-Nov-2002, 12:34 PM
Ok first
thing is goto to your admin and swap skins back, you can do this by
enterting you normal page, but instead of index add "admin" then login
to your admin account. then swap the skin back to default. make sure that
you swap all users using this over to the standard skin. Report back after
you have tried that plz

whats
your forums url?
ipporek
02-Nov-2002, 01:44 PM
It's at target='_blank'>http://members.lycos.co.uk/ipporek/invision (http://members.lycos.co.uk/ipporek/invision)
As at
now I can only access it with the index.php added.
Oh ya, I switched
back to the original skin, the one IBF comes with, and I've also
removed the new skin from board wrappers, skin templates etc. and even
deleted the directory in Skins. But still no use.
By the way, how
do you know if the server has safe-mode on or off?
Aristia
02-Nov-2002, 02:29 PM
Hopefully
someone else will answer you on safe mode subject...
Do you use a
portal?
We have the problem once or twice and realsied it was out
own silly mistake. We had forgotten to add the skin_site.php file into the
new skin's folder. Maybe your problem is the same?

guys, have been busy...Ill go throught it now and get a tutorial written

02-Nov-2002, 04:53 PM
ok
basically I did the following. Now the import of the skin is not full but
pretty dam close. I only had to edit a few text colors. But everything
else was done by the follwoing...
In admin CP click on skins and
templates
Click Manage Board Wrappers/then under Create New Wrapper
choose:
Choose a wrapper file from your computer to import
Note:
This must be in the correct format.
after that go to Manage
Skin Templates and under Create New Template Set choose:
OR Choose a
file from your computer to import
Note: This must be a template group
set.
After that I upload the images to the appropiate folders.
Again i had to edit only a few items manual but alot dam easier than the
long tutorial they have on IBFSkins and less complacated. One thing is you
will not be able to have more than one skin this way. So choose wisley.
You can see what Ive done and see how it turned out here.
http://www.xperties.net/index.php ('http://www.xperties.net/index.php')
still not
complate and registeration closed till IBF release final board.
zxoltar
02-Nov-2002, 05:04 PM
i got my
board skinned manually, and currently have 3 skins up, so you can have
more than 1 skin doin it manually.
Everything works fine for the
boards, my only problems is on the portal side, the table backgrounds
stay with the default ib theme background color and not the skin
color.
I put the skin_site.php in the skin/s* directory as
instructed, but it doesn't change the table backgrounds like the
board does. strange, and haven't figured it out yet.

You should
look in the "skin" folder (inside the forum folder that is stored on
your webhost) and then into "1" folder. find the file called
skin_site.php, copy it then go back out to the main skin folder and into
the next folder you should paste that file.
Basically, you
need that skin_site.php file in each skin folder for each new skin.

manual importing skins, maybe that can help you.
