Ever wanted to know how to perform a forum transfer from one host (server) to another.

First thing you need to do is take your old site offline, so you do not let people make new post that get lost in the transfer.

For version of Invison board 2.00 onwards.
Go to our forum admin area and log in.
on the left hand side menu select "System Settings".
Then select "View All General Settings".
On the new main screen select "Board Offline / Online"
Now use the options there and select the board offline to "yes", enter a reason if you wish.

For version 1.2 - 1.3 of Invision Board.
Go to our forum admin area and log in.
on the left hand side menu select "System Settings".
That will open a sub-menu. In that menu select "Board on/off"
Now use the options there on new main screen and select the board offline to "yes", enter a reason if you wish.

Now your board is offline, you need to back up your site and sql database.

First we will backup the sql, you can do this with either phpmyadmin, or from the forum admin section.
I will explain how to do this from the forum admin, as this is always the option available to everyone.

Go Back into your admin, and use the left hand side menu to select the "SQL Management" at the bottom of the left hand side menu.
Within that menu select "mySQL Back Up"
On the new main screen there are 3 menus to select from
Now set them to read the following.

Add 'CREATE TABLE' statements? Yes
Skip non essential data? No
GZIP Content? Yes

Now click the "start backup" button.

This will then give you the download for your sql.
Keep this safe at all costs.

Now you need to back up your web side itself.
To do this either use the cpanel that you got with your hosting, and select backup, this will give you the options to create a full backup of today.
Do this and it will guild you on the process, sometimes it may ask for a email address, this is so when complete it will email you its done.
You can then either depending on what type of back up you done, download it via a link given or you may need to download the file from ftp from the root, this does not mean where your web site is, not public_html.

The other way if you do not have a cpanel is just to go to your ftp for your hosting.
And then download the complete folder called public_html.

Now you have your forum and sql backed up, store them safely.
