How do you set up the templates so that the default theme uses a jpeg logo instead of a gif logo?

I am running 2.0 pf4.

Just edit the .gif logos out of all the skin files and such. Skin files, CSS, html temps and all that will follow what the skin_*.php tells it to use. so if you have a JPG file in place of the GIF it wont matter as long as the code is the same, and linked correctly.

So... would using a .jpg format allow for transparent backgrounds of an image, or can he or I use another format such as .png..

Thanks Ed.
