Ok i thought i ask everyone here this........

Ok heres my problem, i know i am drawing to much from my hub, i use a mouse, some lights and the remote for my keyboard from a 7 port powered belkin hub. But when i restart my computer i have to remove a item or two from the hub before it allows them to run due to the drain from it all.

The power supply for the hub itself is a 4 amp system, now in most cases i would have thought that would be enough to run its full 7 slots on the hub, i guess the lights are taking a huge drain from it, once i restarted my computer and then removed a item or two then plug it back in all works great, its only happens on start up.

Am i correct then in saying that the hub just cant handle the drain from the 3 items used, if so would i be correct in saying that i would need to get a new hub that runs more than the 4 amps it gives from the power supply for the hub, and then finally where the heck can i get one that has more than 4 amps ?.

I looked for a while now, even at my work (i sell computers) and i can say i finding it really hard to get something that can give more than 3-4 amps.

Well any help be great :)

MENF,

Have you tried adding another hub? That may solve the power problem for you. If the lights are drawing too much from the hub, it may help to break them out between two or more and see if that helps the problem any.

Depending on how many USB ports you have on the machine, you could probably plug each hub into a seperate port rather than daisy-chain them, which may also help.

You may also want to see if it's the hub itself that's at fault. Try using another hub with the same load and see if the problem persists. If it goes away, you know that your current hub has issues.

Just a few ideas.. I've not run into that problem, so I don't know if any of this will help.

yeah i agree i think the best way would be to get an equivalent hub to the one youve already got and use a different usb to connect - splitting then the drain into two would probably solve your problem

i'd agree with what the others have posted, hubby has a belkin 7 port hub connected to his pc and it's full LOL and he's not had any probs with it at all.

I'd also agree that if you have the option to get say another hub the same (or different make) and test it out just to make sure there isn't a prob with the hub

Hmmm, You may also want to see if the lights your using are USB 1.0v and the other devices are USB 2.0v You see the newer versions of USB run at a much lower amp than its older version so you can see it this way...

IN THEORY:
USB Hub is a 2.0v >> Mouse, Keyboard, Printer are usb 2.0 >> Lights are usb1.0v This connection would cause that power drain because the hub is trying to supply an equal amount of consistant amps to each device to power it. Having the lights on the same hub, tells the hub to apply more power to run the lights thus leaving one device with out enough amps to function.

SOLUTION:
1) Purchase or test out a simular hub, same make, same model. If same results apply refer to #2
2) Plug the lights into an exsisting port on the motherboard or usb port on the main system and run the devices off the hub, If the error does not occur you have found your problem.
3) Try looking into lights that are updated and rated for USB 2.0v, This may also correct the issue.

Well I hope this helps in some small way??

We have three of these hubs and they all work great (except they do get a tad hot) ;)

Have you checked for new drivers?

Do the lights for all devices come on, even though they may not work?
