Wassup everyone?!? I go by 1337mod, and I'm from Missouri.

I just joined last night, and from I've seen so far this looks like an awesome forum. I am wondering what version of board is used for this forum, because I like it so much I may switch my forum to this style. So what type of board is used here?

Thanks.

Welcome to the community and NBS Designz 1337mod ! Hope you enjoy your time with us here and enjoy posting ;)

As for the forum we use here... its a V-Bulletin 3.0.3. The style that is currently on this forum is called NightFiber and is available for Invision 1.3, Invision 2.0.x and V-Bulletin 3.0.3.

Hope this helps you out. Again... welcome to NBS... enjoy.

C_P,
I'm near Kansas City, so that would be the opposite side you were on.

BTW,
I'm considering switching my IPB board over to this V-Bulletin board, because so far I like the extra features that it has. I'm wondering if I signed up here for hosting if my IPB board can be switched over to V-Bulletin without too much difficulty, or would I have to start from scratch again? Also, does this site offer V-Bulletin as one of it's scripts, and are there people here that would help me convert my board to V-Bulletin?

One last question,
Do other members here prefer the V-Bulletin over IPB?

Sorry for all the questions, but after seeing the way this board is set-up I'm totally interested in getting my forum set the same. I can't believe I haven't run across a board like this yet.

Most defaintly. Making the switch to V-Bulletin should be done without much difficulty. I believe V-Bulletin offers a convertor for this to be done as well. One thing tho, as i sure you know already. V-Bulletin does cost.

I have heard from the owner that NBS will be taking part in the V-Bulletin affiliation program where we can resell V-Bulletin. You would have to contact Administration/Owners for more details on this and hosting. As far as the conversion of the board goes from IPB to V-Bulletin. We would be more than happy to take on the task for you. All you gotta do is say when and where and we will be here to help you out.

I actually do prefer V-Bulletin over IPB just for the fact of the more features. I also feel it is easier to use and the V-Bulletin community seems to be a little more organised and tight nit. The support at V-Bulletin is also bar none. Take that as you will... but V-Bulletin is better all around.

We dont mind your questions. This is what we like to see from active users. Please feel free to ask anything else you may have on your mind. We will be here to answer them as honestly as we can. I hope this all helps.

Im not exactly sure what the yearly cost is. I believe the owned licence is $160.. dont quote me tho. You may want to head over to http://www.vbulletin.com and check into it. ;)

Yearly costs $85, so its worth getting the owned licence, but one point out on the licence, you get one years access to the download system for updates, so if a new version comes out after the year, you will need to pay $30 each year to keep up to date, thou support is free for life with the owned licence.

Hope this helps a little more, i will say that vB is alot better, and has so many better feature, only one bad side, and its not a biggy, but i be totally honest with you, if you have loads of sections on your forum, and many usergroups it does take a while to set permission up.

We had 98 forums and 18 usergroups, which worked out at just under 1700 settings :O rather a long way to do it. There are features that make it easier, like inerit forum group permission, but for us personally this was no help as every usergroup has different access on our forum.

If you dont have something as big as our site, or not so many usergroups or time to set, then go for it. Its well worth it.

We are so much more happier on vB now, and there support is out of this world, just cant ask for better. There really make you feel special and wanted.

Thanks for all the help everyone!

For now it looks like I will stick with IPB due to the cost of V-Bulletin. The site I run is more of a hobby than anything else, and we've been bouncing from one free host to another over the last year. We only have about 30 members right now, and since it's more of a private forum I doubt that number will increase.

I am however ready to settle down at one location as far as hosting is concerned which of course comes the paying part. The rates here seem very fair, and this forum is far more active than my current host's board. I'm lucky if I login there to see even 1 other member in the online list.....LOL! They are going to all paid plans as of Nov. 1st, and I'm concerned in paying them for service that's not always available (down times on my site almost daily).

Who would I contact here if I decided to sign up for one of your hosting plans and needed help moving my forum to your server?

Also, the board I'm running is IPB 1.3 final which my current web host installed for me. Can I legally move that to your site, or is the program their property? If that's the case, does the web hosting here include IPB 1.3 (or even 2.0), or is that an extra charge?

If by chance someone could IM me, I will be online later tonight for quite awhile. My MSN email is rapidresponse1@msn.com

Thanks in advance.

hi there!

IPS are not allowing their board software to be downloaded free any more. Current users are safe as far as i know. And cpanel has an installer for ipb version 1.2, but you may be ok to take your 1.3 across. Not all hosts have an active community, that doesn't really show any degree of good or bad, merely that they have a forum up for support. I guess it looks nice to see that your host is active on the net and taking an interest in the hosting, but I dont believe that would necessarily reflect on the quality of it.

Thanks for introducing yourself! it's great to see so many new faces...what's even nicer is having the time to welcome those new faces lol.

Thanks again, and I know what you mean regarding the unactive board. I mainly meant that since you can post for help there and end up waiting a long time for a response. However, lately their service has been really good, so I may stay where I'm at for now.

Whoops I didnt mention m3nf is the one to contact about hosting.

"how do you chat in this thing" ? I don't understand - to chat in the forum is just leaving messages for eachother, usually typing in the quick reply box or clicking "reply" for a larger reply page. Alternatively there's a shoutbox at the top of the board, or the irc which unfortunately is usually inactive :(
