This is nothing major, but the image that comes standard for the google search section really doesn't look all that great unless your skin is white so I took it upon myself to find a picture for darker skins.

First we back up all files that we change as usual.

Download skin_site.php from your s* folder.

Look for:
<FORM method=GET action="http://www.google.com/search">

Underneath that you'll see an <img src= tag, replace the url (for those who don't know it's the words inside the quotation marks) with: http://www.mises.org/images/2002/google-header.gif

Upload to your s* folder, and sleep well knowing the tackey google logo doesn't make your skinn look out of wack. :D

What it looks like:http://www.mises.org/images/2002/google-header.gif

It's not much, but it's the little things that count. :)

Might get in trouble with Google for that. :huh: They have a list of 'official' logos that they want people to use.

There's a page here (http://www.google.com/stickers.html) that lists the ones they've approved for use, as well as a link to their guidelines for using them.

I use a dark skin (Red Gel) and didn't like the look of the white Google logo in the portal. I replaced that one with this one...

http://www.google.com/logos/Logo_40blk.gif

The one in the portal is Logo_40wht.gif. If you replace it with Logo_40blk.gif, you get the one shown above. (Be sure to keep the spelling as is. Otherwise you wind up with a broken image on the portal.)

Before using images that aren't on their list, it'd be a good idea to check with the portal authors, as well as the folks at Google to be sure they don't object. Most times I would think they'd be fine with it, but nowadays it's always better to ask first. It keeps the lawyers busy harrassing someone else that way. <_<

I'm not saying it was a bad idea, especially since we both obviously hated that white monstrosity on our dark paged. I'd just rather not see you get knocked on the head by some over-zealous corporate wanker with nothing better to do than write nastygrams.

The really funny part is that I was going to post a similar message! :lol: I'd mentioned it to M3NF in a post a few hours ago, but hadn't had the time until now to do so.

Great minds think alike?

Hmmm....
