I was hoping to install a set of Christmas emoticons on my board, (IPB 2.0.2), but I haven't the slightest idea how to do it without bringing down the internet as we know it. Can someone help me out? Thank you!

Hi Carbo,
I always load them through my ftp into the Forums/Style Emoticons Folder. You can add them to the default, or add a new folder. This is where you would go to remove any you don't want as well.

After you load them there, go into your ACP/Emoticons/Emoticon Manager where you can make them clickable. Just choose the folder you put the new ones in.

Hope that helps :) !

Sunlite, thanks for the reply. I've been able to create a new folder with the new emoticons in it. From there, I installed it on my server.....I think. Because when I go to the AdminCP>Emoticons>Emoticon Manager, I then get to the Current Emoticon Folders. The new folder I created is visible, along with the default folder. However, the new folder is empty. Where did I screw up?

Some progress has been made. I can now see the individual smilies in the folder I created when I go into the AdminCP. The problem now is when I try to update and install those new smilies to my board, I am receiving a message that reads, "This folder is NOT writeable and the CHMOD must be changed." What do I need to do to get the new smilies up and running, and at the same time, placing the default smilies away for the next few weeks? Thanks again!

Hi Carbo,
You need to change that folder permission to 777 in order to upload properly, either change it from the ftp or file manager. that allows you to write in it. In addition, after you have all your emoticons uploaded and clickable, don't forget to go into skin manager in ACP. You then have to click on the skin you want/Edit/and choose the right emoticon folder just like you would do with the skin images. Hope this helps! :)

Oh good, I'm glad it's all straightened out Carbo. (The file manager in the Cpanel is what I was referring to but I'm sure you found it by now. ;) )

Uhh....Sunlite.....it appears there is a bit of a problem. Methinks I spoke too soon. What happened is I made the Christmas smilies folder the default folder. This gave me two separate emoticon folders, (default and Christmas). Well, when I changed the Christmas folder to be the default folder, I went to my board to see if all was well. And what happened was all the default smilies that were already on the board in various posts, they all appeared as the dreaded red X. So, how do I use the Christmas smilies without losing the default smilies that are already posted? Sheesh.....now I know why I'm not a techie! >:(

That's the bad thing about having multiple folders for the emoticons as you can only have 1 folder being used by each skin. What I do is just add more smilies/emoticons to my default folder uploading them one at a time. Then I go to the acp and make them clickable. That way they're all always there. I only have about 6 Christmas ones but thats all I need. Some people like to have a ton and use them in a separate folder. Depends on what you want.

Yeah, I see that now. I'll play with all this a bit and figure it out, I'm sure. Thanks for all your help. I appreciate it.
