Because of all of the insurmountable problems that we have been having with the IB-X2 skin (:( ) we are now considering just switching over to a vBulletin style forum. We have a few questions about switching over first though and was hoping that you guys could help.

<O alt="</font">

For example, what format are the buttons in, gif? We made a LOT of custom buttons for our Invision board and we'd like to still be able to use them if that’s possible.

<O alt="</font">

Also, what is involved with installion? We can install a Invision board with our eyes closed, but we've never installed a vB yet.

<O alt="</font">

How customizable are the vB boards, compared to the Invision boards?

Thanks...

Most (if not all) of the vB buttons are .gif

Installation, you just put your database info in the config file, upload all the files to your host and run the install script. Then you'd have to run the invision coverter. If I remember right (I converted an invision board about six months ago for someone) there were a few things that were messed up within the posts, with quotes I think... just had to run a query to clean that up.

chmod a few folders (if you allow avatar uploads, smilie uploads via the ACP etc...)

Go thru and check your forum permissions etc...

Then work on your style...

I haven't worked with Invision much but vB is extrememly customizable... there are alot of hacks/mods out at vbulletin.org and customizing the appearance isn't hard if you have an understanding of css and html. :) HTH

vBulletin takes a bit longer to set up, as you first need to rename config.php.new to config.php. Then, you must edit config.php, which means you already need to have your MySQL database set up and ready to go. Once you edit config.php, you run the installer, and it will go through thirteen "steps" to set up your board. It's not hard at all to install, just takes a bit of time.

Only took me 5 mins to setup. I got it yesterday.
