Well i opened gmail today to check my email and i looked at my free space, and this is what it said:

You are currently using 3 MB (0%) of your 2055 MB.

Yep all increased now.

You are currently using 0 MB (0%) of your 2056 MB.

From Google.

G is for growth
Storage is an important part of email, but that doesn't mean you should have to worry about it. To celebrate our one-year birthday, we're giving everyone one more gigabyte. But why stop the party there? Our plan is to continue growing your storage beyond 2GBs by giving you more space as we are able. We know that email will only become more important in people's lives, and we want Gmail to keep up with our users and their needs. From Gmail, you can expect more.

Hey, At least we can all say we were apart of something great. Something many probably wont see. I mean GMail will probably be around it just wont have 2 gigs. it will probably only have one once it goes public. Speaking of, does anyone like know if and when their going to go public.

This is a good advertising and marketing ploy - which is why you still require an invitation to get on it.

GMail's space has now literally turned into infinity. Google will decide once youve used up all the space to upgrade your account further. So no watching limits anymore, it seems they have some technology which should be let known ;)

thats the thing though, Probably no one unless used as a business account to receive hundreds of emails a day will use a gig of email space. and another thing, I love gmail but how the hell are they doing this all for free???

Well if you have your own server its easy to do for free. I agree it isnt easy using up all that space, I think they want people to not send anything to the trash lol.

Even so, A blade server would be VERY hard to keep up with if the amount of speace per account is 2 gigs. PLUS they probably have how many different blade servers. The maximum HDD that ive seen go public is about 400Gigs. and its from western Digital. Thats only about 200 Accounts. and the way they are going up and up and up in space, that takes away a few accounts ever couple of Megabytes they add.
