In
general creating a button with a mouse over effect involves at least two
images which need to be pre loaded. You can however create a reasonable
effect using our friend alpha filter which in this case offers an actual
improvement in speed!! Anyway I've made a
little web page with examples of two mouseover effects, some little extras
you can use when dealing with transparency, and the code which you can cut
and paste to suit your own needs.

Please excuse the button
graphics, photoshop makes me cry

Adam great tute!! I will be adding the
code to my portal soon and make some buttons that will add some
interaction to it soon :)

Thanks again M8!

You
would make an awesome coder here :) or
perhaps a tute writter! Your skills are very
impressive!

tis
a useful thing to know of course if you want to get flashy(this one
isn't mine btw) you make a whole bunch of javascipt functions for the
various transitions and you get something like http://www.virtual-forum.com/blend/ ('http://www.virtual-forum.com/blend/')

edit :
oops I should explain that in the first example -moz-opacity:50%; is what
netscape uses to define alpha tranparency so this should be compatible
with both, its the same way I'm going to make the transparent skin
compatible ;)

That
will make alot of peeps happy :) so is it
a simple fix just change the code to moz-opacity:50% instead of the
opacity filter?

you just
put in both eg filter:alpha(opacity=50); -moz-opacity:50%; I've got
netscape 7 for linux on a disc somewhere so I'm going to try it
tonight :)

Looks fantastic. will try and add
it to mine as this skin is kewl, kicks --- and takes no
prisioners.

tnks for adding it and allowing others to use it - its
nice to see people share ideas again - as a lot of us just cant do it
ourselves...

tnks again, will be around

very nice Aaron change the alt="unfade" in each one to the following
alt="Home" alt="Forums" alt="Search" alt="Messages"
alt="members" and alt="Help" or make each one a description for
example for Messages alt="Click to visit your message centre" or some
such blurb, then you'll get the correct description when you hover
over each item. Looks cool though :D

edit ah I see you have, looking
cool mate, next skin I make, when they fix the horrible post section bug,
I'm going to do a similar effect(maybe with some transitions) on the
old forum buttons :)

not too
bad, you could have it for add reply, new topic, new poll, all the aim,
msn, email stuff and edit and quote once you've got the code you could
just edit the macro for each one, in the next project maybe
;)

Heres a pre-prepared macro set for simple mouseover buttons for the
transparent skin. Easy to install just download and unzip and you should
end up with macro.txt...Go to your admin CP>Skins & Templates>Manage
Macros>Import...select the macro.txt file you unzipped and click import,
you should end up with a new and unallocated set of macros called
something like New Macro Set (Upload ID: 073203).

Next go to Manage
Skin Sets>Edit Transparent and set Use Macro Set: to the new macros
you've just imported. Hey presto some simple mousoverified buttons

Cool, I
will try that! I am adding a whole bunch of skins to my forums
tonight, and the transparent skin is one of them. I really need members,
and if you would like to join, and BE active, feel free! NOTE: You
MUST PM me on this board to tell me you will be active, or I shall not
valisate you through the ACP. The URL is : http://plugin.underground-hq.net/forums ('http://plugin.underground-hq.net/forums')
