Just curious about peoples opinion on this matter. It has been quite some time since the old 15 inch monitors came out and nowadays it seems that people are leaning towards 1024 x 768 as the new standard screen resolution.
Your thoughts?

My thoughts are, that 800x600 old, and is dieing.
1024x768 is just perfect for me. I couldn't go for anything higher. People shouldn't be using old 15 inch monitors, they'd be just screwing themselves in a non-***ual way. :P

I think it's dead. I use the 1280x1024 resolution. I would never go to 1024x768, the icons and stuff are way too big on that res imo.

One must not forget that some or almost all macs still use a screen size of 770x550 I think..?
Maybe M3 or Aristia could help us out on this one...

I use myself 1280 x 1024 on my mac, thou on the old pc i used to have was at 1600x1200. I like it with as much space as possible for lots of windows. Anything below 1024x is dead and i would not even go near.

I use 1024x768 on my Desktop computer.
And I think I'm at 800x600 on my laptop 13" or 15" screen

although i agree that 800x600 should be gone and forgoton, it isn't.....there are many third wolrd countrys out there that can not afford such luxurys as 19" crt monitors and TFT?....well forget it...so with that inmind i tend to make sure that when i skin a board that it looks ok in 800x600 as well, so as we may use larger crt and tft's thier are many thousonds of people out there using the old 14" CRT and the same with the older laptops...they will often only go to 800x600,
me? i only use 1024x768 so as to keep my skining as tight as posible.

I would have to agree with sprocket all the studies I have seen show that 800 x 600 is still widely used throughout the world although 1024 x 768 has gained alot of ground. The older mac's do use a smaller screen resolution and derekivey I like large icons I usually make new custom icons to replace the ugly ones.

LOL well everyone has their own preference although the only icons you can see on my desktop are in the start panel and on my dock..........unless of course I'm running avedesk :crazed:
I dont think 800 x 600 is just about dead there are a lot people who still lumber along on old machines or will purchase a small monitor to save money. Although with the reduction in price of LCD monitors we may see fewer low resolutions. The last study done on screen resolutions still had the majority of users on 800 x 600.
