guys and
girls, this is important question for me, try to be serious ....if you can
:)
anyway, i'm not trying to sell
my webhosting service, just would like to know your
opinion:
What would you expect from "perfect" web hosting
provider?
(plz, dont post something like "2Gb space for free"
)
I really need to know how can I improve my
hosting...so...help!

Oh my
this is perfect for me. I am needing web space at the moment and if you
could help I would luv you  As far as I am
concerned the perfect web host would have in no particular order (I
preseume it is Apache): PHP4
CGI-bin
Multiple
mySQL databases (Say 5)
Information provided for pointing domain
names (Name Servers set-up)
A good amount of space or enough for
the average site (Say 100-300 MB)
A good amount of bandwidth (Space
times 3 or 4 or unlimited)
Reliable support and reply within 24
hours
User Control Panel
FTP access & Mail accounts
(Manageable through Control Panel)
Sub-Domains (Manageable through
Control Panel)
Site Statistics (Viewable through Control
Panel)
Email aliases, forwarding and auto-responders (Manageable
through control panel)
Mail (SMTP) Server
Custom Error
pages
I suggest phpMyAdmin control panel for SQL
I suggest
Ensim or similar for User Control Panel
I am currently looking
at a plan with most of this for $5 USD a month. If you can beat this
I would LUV to go with you. I am only a student without a job and money is
very scarce. If you need a web site maybe I could make one for you in
exchange for a few months hosting???

I agree with
lloyd, with a few extra.
The regular backup of
info,nightly
The money is not a issue, the price is for what you
get, when i play to go to a hosted server, i will not be looking at a
cost, the featuere that you get are more important, the bandwidth for
myself would be one of the main factor's, also no advertising, no one
would want a banner on a paid server.
Email forwarding is a bonus,
but i will be looking for that myself, i would want to have
that.
Other than that the same above with lloyd.

This is
for me currently being interested as a new business if I could use it for
my clients:
web space: 100 MB (500 MB if I can spilt it between people
and give them individual access)
bandwidth: 10 GB (If I spilt it
between alot of people I would need to be safe)
multi-hosted domains:
What is this? If it is the ability to have two .com's coming to one
hosting area then 5-10
emails: One email account for every 20 MB of
space
ftp: One FTP account for every 20 MB of space
If it was
purely for myself:
web space: 100 MB
bandwidth: 1-5
GB
multi-hosted domains: Just one thanks
emails: 5 (For other
employees later on)
ftp: 5 (One with each email address)
Being
a web designer my clients will often need hosting at the end of the day.
There are three things I can do:
1) Sell them a portition of my space
(Say 20 MB) to run their site on
2) Get a deal going with the host so
that all of them go with the host
3) Find the cheapest host at the
time
Odin I would be quite interested to discuss this with you via
an Instant Messenger like MSN or AIM. If you could offer me discounted
hosting I could offer a Web Design for your businness and/or guarentee all
my clients will be hosted with you.

Topgun, I have
sent you PM :)
Of
corse we can talk :)
what you are talking about
providing web space for your client is called "reseller package" when
you have WebHosting Manager panel and you are able to create web accounts,
make quotas and such. It is great additional option that you can offer for
your clients.
