Okay I am not one to complain much, but this got me steamed!

We (my wife and I) have a new client coming on board for hosting and advertising and he wanted a domain name that is the same as his restaurant.

Well I find out that a company in Massachusettes here in the states has rights to some 6,000+ domain names for sale.

Well the one I wanted was offered by them so I made a phone call to see just how much it would cost...

The operator on the phone quoted me a price of $1500.00 USD!!! She even went to say that most cost a min. of $2500.00 USD!! That is completely WRONG!.

How can a company go around buying up domain names just sell them at a higher cost..

Sorry for that, had to get that off my chest.

they get away with it by parking it on the web with a search engine attached to it with a little tag saying "want to buy this domain?" as long as the domain name is active, they can normaly get away with it, unless you are a large corp and have the money to take them to court........and what they make through selling this names more than makes up for any court actions....

If the guy who runs the retaurant has a trademark in that name which was filed before these people registered the domain then in my opinion he may have a good legal case. Of course if he has not though then it can be tricky!
