FULL CLIP 30-Jul-2006, 02:34 AM I NEED A TEMP ADMIN TO HELP GET SOME THINGS RUNNING ON MY SITE IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO HELP GOT TO freestyleworld.spreebb.com and register and send me a pm and i will make you ADMIN SO YOU CAN HELP wimpie 30-Jul-2006, 09:14 AM i don't think its possible to install a shoutbox on your forum.. nightfox_pc_asst 01-Aug-2006, 05:53 PM I believe Spreebb uses Invision Power Board 1.3u, which I believe does not allow a shoutbox to be installed. Also since 1.3u is an out-of-date piece of software, it is prone to attacks by hackers and the like. Check with Spreebb on thier Terms of Use before asking to install something they may not allow. Quick Link to Board Modifications by SpreeBB http://forums.spreebb.com/index.php?c=4 RobertT FULL CLIP 17-Aug-2006, 05:10 PM Well Im Gettin A A Invison Free Board Then Can Some Body Help Derek 17-Aug-2006, 05:47 PM I don't think you can install stuff on Invision Free either. You would have to get your own webhosting package from someone and install IPB 1.3 (which is free) in order to install mods. wimpie 17-Aug-2006, 08:25 PM i tried to look if possible, well, its possible to install a shoutbox, but it needs to be remotely hasted, and it won't recognise members of the forum, you need to put in a name yourself.. here example: http://z6.invisionfree.com/PHPprojects/index.php? nightfox_pc_asst 26-Aug-2006, 06:52 PM IPB 1.3 (which is free) in order to install mods. I don't believe 1.3 is free, it needs a license to run and if found that you're using a 1.3 board and Invision finds out, you will be asked to delete the 1.3 board or you could face charges for using illegal software. Plus Invision Power Boards no longer offers security patches or even an upgrade to it. Just something to think about. Derek 26-Aug-2006, 07:29 PM It is free. Why do you think Invision Free and all those other sites can use it? wimpie 26-Aug-2006, 09:43 PM yes, 1.3 is free to use (if you downloaded it from ipb those days), 1.3.1 is a limited trial (up to 2.0 limited trial), they changed the rules after 1.3. nightfox_pc_asst 27-Aug-2006, 10:12 PM So for a person whom host sites such as myself, I could say host IPB 1.3 boards? I will check with Matt M. (owner of IPB) on this, If you look into the ACP part of an Invisionfree board you will find many options are not there compared to an original board by IPB. It is also my understanding when M3NF owned this site (NBS) he was told that Fantasico removed 1.3 IPB from its list because it was not considered free anymore.... I believe that they are a cloned version using the code from the IPB 1.3 board to make it work as an original and with less to offer. I will let you know what Matt says. Cheers. Derek 28-Aug-2006, 04:11 AM Actually IPB 1.3 is still in fantastico. nightfox_pc_asst 28-Aug-2006, 06:50 AM Staff at IPB says; However, you are not allowed to gain access to files as this is against the distribution license.<!--QuoteEnd--> This could also be seen as me saying, "If you did start up a hosting package, you cannot give people access to the files." And no Fantasico does no longer include IPB 1.3 Discussion Boards PHPBB and SMF and a member on IPSBeyond said; FuSoYa: Actually, Fantastico updated their software around the time 2.0.0 came out, they don't include IPB at all anymore. Some hosts just don't use the latest version of Fantastico. <!--IBF.ATTACHMENT_77141--> SO the answer is its against the distribution license... Cheers |
