Would is be possible to add a database dump feature so that is someone want's to move their forum we can give them a backup ?

ForumZCLub 12-Aug-2006, 10:01 AM Actually that wouldnt be a gud idea bcz you would have your own forum hosting at loss. anywayz superadmin should have ability to backup a database for each forum or whole NightStorm 12-Aug-2006, 02:32 PM The secret here is to customize the board so that their dump would be useless, unless they bought hosting from you specifically. ;) But this is one of the primary reasons why sites like invisionfree, ezboards and the like do not offer the option to backup your database... if they did, then they would start losing all their customers. The ability to back up your database would help as you could put it on the customer to maintain their own boards... if they get hacked, they can restore their boards to a time when they were clean. But, on the flipside, it would be an easy way to shoot yourself in the foot by giving them the ability to jump ship, or possibly even corrupt the entire database (if they are given the ability to inject SQL data into their tables, which I highly suggest against). I'm kind of torn on this one... I would hope the nbs administrator would have the ability to enable/disable this feature on a board-by-board basis, at the very least. If a user needs a dump of the database then they could request it. I think that this would be the best option, so that people can request a backup.
